Deep Tissue Massage

A deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is particularly helpful for people with chronically tense and contracted areas. If you commonly have a stiff neck, lower back tightness or sore shoulders, then this is the massage for you.

People generally refer to the tension they feel as tightness. This tightness is caused by adhesions (scar tissue) or knots that slowly developed in your muscles, tendons and ligaments over time. The adhesions will often block blood circulation leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. This potentially limits your movement, causes pain along with inflammation.

A stiff neck and sore back can be a painful start to the day. Let me help you take control of your pain with a deep tissue massage in Ashburn and get back to living a full life.

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage

It’s important to know that deep tissue massages do not target the whole body. People usually get them to focus on one area of pain. During the massage, the movements are typically slower and the pressure is much deeper.

Some of the best benefits of deep tissue massages include:

  • Loosen muscle tissue
  • Release toxins
  • Restore proper blood and oxygen circulation

Prepare for Your Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massages can be more intense, so before you arrive for your massage, there are a few things you should do to prepare your body.

First, think about your pain’s timeline. If your pain is acute – meaning brand new – I would recommend a 60-minute service. If your pain is chronic – meaning ongoing for more than 90 days – I would recommend a 90-minute service. Then you should get a regular massage to prevent any unnecessary build-up of stress, tension and toxins.

I also recommend taking the time to do some self-assessment of your pain and your pain tolerance. Think about where your pain is coming from, what spots are particularly tender and what could be causing the pain. Deep tissue massages can be uncomfortable at times, so it’s important to think about your pain tolerance level. We’ll discuss these factors in depth at the beginning of your appointment, but you should think about them in advance.

Hydration is key to a good deep tissue massage. Drink plenty of water at least two hours before you arrive. You should also drink water after your massage to flush out the toxins from your body. The massage breaks up the toxins in your muscles, and now they’re ready to exit the body. If you don’t drink enough water, then the toxins will find a new home in another part of your body, and the effectiveness of the massage will be limited.

You may undress to your comfort level, and massage cream will be used during your session. Most people see positive effects at least two days after the massage.
