Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is nine, full months of one’s body continuously changing and adapting to the life growing inside. The unfolding of life is exciting, but it also brings inevitable side effects. As pregnancy progresses, your body’s postural alignment adjusts to the baby’s increasing weight. As a result, the strain is often placed on your back, legs, and joints.

Pregnancy massage is specially tailored for expecting mothers. Your body will be carefully positioned in either the side-lying position or face-down in a prenatal pillow, whichever you choose. Both positions take the pressure off the nerves and arteries in your body.

To better enjoy this special time in your life, let me give you a pregnancy massage and get you on the right track to the big day.

Benefits of Pregnancy Massage

Pregnant women may feel a number of benefits from pregnancy massages. They may feel a reduction in symptoms of anxiety, stress, sleep problems and back pain. In some cases, they may have fewer complications in their delivery as well as fewer postnatal complications.

Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, pregnancy massages can affect you in different ways.

First Trimester:

The primary goal of massage is to provide relaxation and increase blood flow circulation. Increased blood flow delivers oxygen and nutrients into your cells and increases blood flow to the placenta. By stimulating blood flow, this massage can boost your immunity and energy level.

Second Trimester:

As the baby’s weight increases, your muscles may become sore. Massage is used to relieve muscle spasms and ease structural changes. Massage works to loosen joints, keep them aligned and soften the connective tissues, thereby relieving backaches and leg cramps.

Third Trimester:

During the final trimester, the baby begins to gain weight more rapidly, pressing against inner organs and shifting them about. Discomfort increases and the impending due date can cause added stress and anxiety. At this stage, I will focus on trigger points to relieve pain in preparation for delivery.

I am a certified pregnancy massage therapist.  I am acquainted with the physical and hormonal effects of pregnancy and also have the skills to counterbalance these changes. You’ll find I will use a lighter to firmer touch and concentrate on those areas most vulnerable to the changes in your body.

Preparing for Your Pregnancy Massage

I accept mothers in all stages of pregnancy. I encourage all to receive prenatal massage unless they are having complications. If you are unsure about whether or not you are able to get a massage, then please contact your doctor beforehand.

I always recommend my clients wear comfortable clothing and drink plenty of water before the appointment. Once your appointment begins, I will ask you about your pregnancy and how I can best help you feel better and less stressed.

All expecting mothers must fill out a prenatal consent form prior to receiving a massage. Treat your body right during this special time. Contact me and schedule a pregnancy massage in my  Ashburn office. Contact me at 703-249-4829 and schedule an appointment.
