So here’s the deal, for 2 years, I have been walking around in a fog. I’ve given up all the things I enjoy in life like lifting, cooking, art, cycling, exploring, photography. Gone. I used to do 30-day cleanses once a year and, always at the beginning of the year. It was my way of letting go of the previous year to prepare my body for the year ahead. Once completed, I felt great. My mind was sharp, the body was banging, the mood was bright, cheery and positive. But I stopped. The political climate in this country took a toll on me. If you live anywhere in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area as I do, you know what I’m talking about. There is absolutely no escaping the conversation. It is everywhere. So, what’s a girl to do? I shut down, gained weight, became narrow-minded and turned to retail therapy. Every day was a chore. I hated people. I became confrontational. It was bad. But lately, a familiar drive-light-energy has turned on inside of me. I feel like I’m ready to live again. And, what better way to jump start my renewed interest in life than with a cleanse. Get all that funk and poison out of me. Let new healthy bacteria in to grow good thoughts and energy through my body that radiates out. Too much?
The 30-day plan
I am by no means a stranger to cleanses. I’ve done many short and long cleanses over the last 20 years. This one is going to be a doozy though. My reasons for doing this are:
- to get focused because I have a ton of projects I’d like to start and complete;
- to shed belly and back fat that I’ve packed on over these two years;
- and lastly, to get mentally strong because I’ve become a bit of a sap.
Geeze, Felicia how’d you let yourself get like this? It doesn’t matter, I have a plan to get back on track.
- Day 1 – Day 5: Nature’s Secret 5-Day Fast & Cleanse
- Day 6 – Day 31: Dr. Tobias 14-Day Quick Colon Cleanse
- Day 20 -Day 31: Green Juice Cleanse
I know this is more like a 32-day cleanse but 30-day just sounds better.
I love this cleanse and have done it a handful of times over the years. I usually do this fasting cleanse by itself because of how intense it is. A fasting cleanse means no food involved. For 5 days, I will take all the contents in the box plus all the water and herbal teas I can drink but that’s it. It is a simple cleanse to follow with great directions. I start out with this cleanse because it makes the rest of the 30-day cleanse mentally easier. In the past, I generally feel a very low energy and lethargic days 2-3. By days 4-5, I have spikes in my energy. I’m hopeful the same will occur this time around too.
This one is new to me. I got the idea of adding this into my cleanse because I recently took my mom in for her colonoscopy. I got the opportunity to talk to her doctor about colon health. It was fascinating. They showed me pictures of my mom’s colon as well as others; explained the common issues people have with colons such as colon cancer (3rd most common cause of cancer deaths in America), diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, and polyps; and, said the best solution to maintaining one’s colon health is diet. Specifically, eat more fruits and vegetables and less red meat. That aside, doctors have their patients do a medical grade colon cleanse a few days prior to their visit so they can get a better scope/picture of their insides. This is what inspired me to do a longer colon cleanse. This one is gentle and not as potent as the medical grade one. However, I’m hoping for a cleaner, leaner, healthier colon by day 20. In addition to this colon cleanse, I will begin drinking clear liquids like juices, broths, and miso soup.
When I do 30-day cleanses, they usually are juice only. This time around, I want to shock every level of my psyche so I can truly feel accomplished and new at the end of it. Juicing is my comfort zone when doing these 30-day cleanses. By ending with it, I’ll have something to look forward to. I get to make simple and complex organic juices. They’re gonna taste so good. I can’t wait.
The Other Stuff
It’s always nice to have great tools to assist you on a long cleanse. A good friend who does much longer cleanses taught me that. I have an Omega 8004 mastication juicer. Which means, it has a slow running motor to extract all the juice from fruits and vegetables leaving you with no pulp in your juice and extremely dry pulp. The juicer is easy to clean too.
Since. this is also a weight-loss plan, I will be doing light exercising throughout. Because I’m not eating anything, movement aids my colon in moving the crude that’s in there out. I’ll do walk/jogs, stretches, bodyweight movements. These things will also help raise my body temperature to help burn fat and calories leading to weight-loss.
Rest assured, I will be drinking 1 gallon of water a day to stay hydrated and replenish water loss from pooping, exercising and living.
Here’s a list of the supplements I’ll be taking:
All items are plant-based. I take these to make sure I’m getting all the necessary daily vitamins and minerals.
Here’s the recipe for my special tea that I drink every morning.
- 1 lemon squeezed
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- 12 drops of ginger extract
- 8oz of warm water
This is my liver cleanser and gut neutralizer. It helps to digest the liquids I’m drinking.
My Support Group
I’m an all or nothing person as most people who know me would describe me. I never do anything half-assed. What’s the point? When I commit, I get it done. I love this about being me. So do the people who surround me. Somewhere I have lost that drive. I finally think I am capable of getting it back. I have all the support in I need to get me through this HUGE undertaking. A loving partner who will pick up my house chores and cheer me on while telling me I’m crazy. A helpful mom who’s taking care of my massage laundry. And two dogs who’ll see me through everything with a bark and a smile. I will successfully get through this cleanse as I have all the others by listening to my body and leaning on my support group when I’m tired, irritable and cranky.
